Revisiting the Pencil Grip Theory

I chatted with Hope's OT today about the pencil grip theory. I decided to do some more research on this topic, as it seems a little controversial. How can how you hold your pencil affect your learning?

Well, I found this very informative article! I am still very curious and interested in this topic and plan to do more research on this.

I think this entire topic is so interesting as well! I try and try to get Bug to hold his penciol correctly and every once in a while he will do it, but the majority of the time it is the full hand clenching. This is one thing that his teachers have upset me with. Everytime I bring it up I am brushed off with "oh, most of the kids in here don't hold it correctly yet" Ugh, well, you are a TEACHER!!! Anyways, I feel like I am the only one trying to create any change in this. He is starting to write and if he would just hold the pencil the right way it would be so much easier for him.

I'm so glad you brought this all up!

I've never thought of the mechanics of pencil grip theories, but I know that my handwriting was much better every time I used a sharp pencil, rather than a blunt one.

Maybe that's what I should use to write my novels!

Hmmm...makes you wonder about those who write with their toes, doesn't it? Interesting post...
